# Convert HEIC to JPG

> Convert iPhone photos from HEIC to JPG without an app and without uploading. Afterwards they open on Windows, in Office and on any website.

The iPhone saves photos as HEIC by default. Copy them to a Windows PC or try to upload them somewhere, and it often fails. Here you turn them into normal JPGs without installing anything.

## FAQ

### What is HEIC anyway?

The image format Apple has used since iOS 11. It saves about half the storage, but Windows and many websites cannot open it out of the box.

### Can I switch the iPhone to JPG?

Yes: Settings > Camera > Formats > "Most Compatible". That only applies to new photos, older ones stay HEIC.

### Are capture date and location kept?

The image data is written anew. If you need the metadata, read it with the EXIF viewer first.
